Overview
Splitwise is looking to add an experienced Product Manager (PM) to help us launch brand new initiatives, growth features, and fintech projects in 2026 and beyond. You’ll help reduce the stress that sharing money places on relationships for tens of millions of people around the world and will directly get to see the impact of your work on the flagship product of a small (~50+ person) company.
Product at Splitwise
Splitwise is focused on creating products that evaporate awkward conversations about money. We strive to make our products easy and delightful to use, even silly, and accessible and usable to a global audience. Since 2022, Splitwise has also worked with regulated partners like banks and payment networks to build financial technology products that enable us to create novel multi-player financial experiences. Our goal is to have a holistic, user-centered, and ethical approach towards product design, whether that’s making great mobile apps or designing the infrastructure for a financial service.
Building great products for consumers is a mix of science and art. Data science and user testing help us build a strong quantitative understanding of how users use our products. We also strongly value qualitative feedback from customers, market and user research, and our own design intuitions as inputs to our process. Building financial technology also involves learning about and complying with a complex array of global regulation and thinking about compliance principles as more than just a checkbox.
In the end, we know we’ve succeeded when our customers tell us that Splitwise saved their relationship with a friend, family member, or romantic partner.
The Role
PMs at Splitwise are generalists who can wear many hats and be responsible for a successful finished product delivered to customers. This involves owning an idea or concept and bringing it to reality by partnering with other subject matter experts as necessary. Product managers develop their product hypotheses with the team and then serve as a business decision maker and knowledge leader throughout implementation. We expect PMs at Splitwise to work with designers to shape user stories and wireframes, kick-off research with data scientists on defining success metrics and/or impact sizing, and collaborate with engineers to shape API specifications and data architecture. You’ll report to Jon, Splitwise’s CEO, and work closely with members of the software engineering, design, data, marketing, user research, compliance, and operations teams.
What you'll actually do at Splitwise:
- Develop and execute product strategy and tactics through collaboration with Splitwise’s design, business, and engineering teams
- Create technical and product specifications, write documentation, organize key meetings, and build internal training related to new product developments
- Coordinate teams to build and deploy new products by setting milestones and ensuring strong collaboration and handoffs
- Research product needs through data science, market research, competitive research, and qualitative research
- Listen to customers through surveys, user interviews, and working closely with customer support

- You enjoy working in a team, and treat others with empathy and respect
- You can apply your empathy and listening skills strategically to see things from the eyes of the customer, and use that to make great product decisions
- You’re both scrappy and strategic, unafraid to hop in and do customer support to learn customer pain points while also thinking about the big picture
- You can think about pragmatic product trade-offs both qualitatively and quantitatively, with a scientific or fact-based mindset, and separate opinion and narrative from facts
- You’re skilled at communicating with your team both in writing and verbally
- You’re a quick learner, who picks up new technical and industry knowledge as you work
- You value intellectual honesty, and aren’t afraid to tell your team when something is a success or a failure, and can also do so with respect and care
- Valued but not required: Experience as a PM in consumer software, fintech, other regulated industries, and/or highly global businesses; deep knowledge of the Splitwise product; programming skills and/or SQL skills; data science, statistics, and/or experimentation expertise; tasteful appreciation for AI-enabled workflows where benefits exceed costs/risks
Things you'll learn:
- How to build social features and products used by millions of people, and all of the learning that comes with seeing those products come to life
- How people all over the world share finances with their close friends and family
- A global perspective on payments, fintech markets and financial regulations
- How a very privacy and security-conscious company approaches AI

Why Splitwise: What interests you about this role and working for Splitwise?
Location: Splitwise is headquartered in Providence, RI. We have some employees/positions that work out of the HQ each week, as well as many others who work remotely from somewhere in the USA. For those employees, we expect a few (roughly 2-4) trips to meet in person per year. We also have some additional places, such as New York City, where we happen to have several “remote” employees who choose to work together in-person on an ad-hoc basis. Which of these are you interested in?
A recent PM project: This position requires existing product management experience. Please share no more than a few sentences about a relevant, impactful project you were the key product stakeholder for, including an explanation of what the project is or was and what was the scope of its impact (ideally quantitatively in terms of user benefit, revenue, and/or the relevant product metric you cared about).
Anything else (optional): If you can think of a project you have done, a piece of product writing, or anything else about you that will impress us with your strengths as a PM or help you stand out from other candidates, please feel free to include it in your email.
Note on AI usage during the interview process
The use of new generative AI tools and workflows has exploded across the industry. While AI can be a very helpful productivity tool, getting to know our candidates as people is an important part of our application process and decision to work with them.
There will be some parts of Splitwise’s interview process where AI use will be explicitly allowed (though never required), and some parts where it will be specifically forbidden so we get to know you better.
Please do not use AI to write your application email. You may of course use AI to proofread or edit your communications with us, but we expect people to write to us in their own words and tell us their personal story. Do not use AI tools during an interview without disclosing that use to us.
Splitwise is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
